Introducing the color of the week: Red Bay, or more specifically SW6868. Red Bay is in our top five list of most popular Urban Orchard colors. The rich red color of Red Bay has been described as barn red. Warm up any room with a Red Bay accent. While perfect for the upcoming Fall and Christmas seasons, Red Bay has become a "new neutral" that can be left up all year long.

What should I put in my frame?

When it comes to deciding what to put in your Urban Orchard frame, the options are endless. You can always purchase cute metal signs from Hobby Lobby, prints from JoAnns, or artwork from Old World Market. Or you can go the more home-made route and find something on Etsy or (my favorite) you can purchase your own printable file.

Printable are fabulous for a variety of reasons:
1. It won't cost you an arm or a leg for the file- sometimes you can even find them for free
2. Depending on where you are located, printing costs can be pretty cheap
3. Some of the files can be customized.
4. You are not going to find these pieces at a large box store.
5. With so many out there, you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for.

Each week, I will feature a different blog, Etsy shop, or online store that specializes in adorable printable art. My first feature is Simple as That. I have followed the blog for the past year and LOVE every post. Printables, scrapbook layouts, gift ideas, recipes- she covers it all.

This month Rebecca not only introduces fun summer fonts, but she also has adorable scrapbooking layouts and healthy summer snacks, photo overlay files and a teaching themed printable. Check it all out at http://simpleasthatblog.com/

It's Red White and Blue Season

Memorial Day weekend is here and for many of us it's the unofficial kick-off to summer. As we take down our soft colored spring décor, it is replaced with bright summer colors and the patriotic red, white and blue tend to make it into every home. Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day are all great ways to celebrate the American Spirit!

Check out these frames in action. They are all fun ways to incorporate blue into your home without being obtrusive.  The custom mirror (2'x4') is a great example of our flexibility and our ability to go beyond our catalog.

Have an idea for a frame? Send us a message and we will create a rending for you!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. As you sit fireside roasting marshmallows, or enjoy time with your family, please take a minute to remember, say thanks and show respect for all of those that are fighting for this country, past and present!

Urban Orchard Opportunity

The  birds are chirping and a warm breeze is blowing. It’s almost  summertime and that means Urban Orchard is approaching our one year anniversary. Where has the time gone??? It has certainly been a whirlwind, but I would not change a second of this past year. Packaging and shipping, painting and distressing, suppliers and accounting- it has certainly been a year of learning. The focus of our first year was production. Our goal was to produce the highest quality products in the most efficient way possible. I can say with great confidence that we met our goal. I have yet to come across another frame that can match the quality of an Urban Orchard Frame. Our production time is the fastest in the industry and it is improving with each passing week. This past spring we moved our workshop to a new location in order to maximize our efficiency and allow for future growth. As we move into our second year we are now shifting our focus from production to growth. Our foundation is set and we are ready to take Urban Orchard to the next level!

Whether you have contemplated joining us for a while or you are just now learning of Urban Orchard, we encourage you to explore everything Urban Orchard has to offer. The consultant guidebook (found here on our website) should be  able to
answer most of your initial questions.

The internet and Facebook are buzzing with new “ground floor” opportunities and all of the incredible possibilities available to those select few who get in early. Please be weary of anyone who promises easy money. Building a team and customer base is work at any stage of a company. Consultants have to educate their team as well as customers about the product.  Self-motivation is important- success is directly correlated to the effort you put in. We are doing everything possible to help our consultants be successful and we will continue to assist them as we move to the next level.

Urban Orchard Opportunities
It  is important to understand what makes Urban Orchard different from the other direct sales companies out there.

  • Family Owned and Operated. When a consultant joins Urban Orchard, it’s a personal experience. We share cell phone numbers- not 1-800 numbers. If there is a problem or you need to place a special order, you will speak directly with the person making your frame. No call centers or having to work your way up the line to get answer to a question.
  • American-made, custom products. Each frame is made right here in the Midwest and is custom made to order. We never have to worry about quality control with products being shipped from China- ours are hand-made with traditional craftsmanship by people we know and trust.
  • Consultant involvement. We understand that a team approach is the only way to utilize the collective talent of our Urban Orchard family. We are constantly asking our consultants for feedback, ideas and opinions. Urban Orchard will only be successful if our consultants are successful. We will always do our best to support our consultants and help them grow their businesses.

While it’s easy to get excited while talking about “ground floor” opportunities, it is also important to be practical about the challenges. Our consultants understand that starting with a new company means not everything is perfect and sometimes there are hiccups. They agree to be patient as we do the best we can while paving the way to something that is amazing. Our consultants have vision for the future and see how the opportunities in front of them outweigh the challenges. If you would like to know more about our company, our plans for the future and the details of our consultant program- please contact me. I would love to chat with you. Send me a personal email with your name, location and contact phone number at kschilling@urbanorchardframes.com

We are offering a special promotion that will run through July 31st. During this limited time new consultants can take $50 off their starter kit, or select a free wooden color kit ($100 value) with their kit purchase. Please contact myself or a consultant for more information.

I love you

1/20/2014

I come from an "I love you" family. Growing up we said "I love you" every time we hung up the phone, left the house, basically any time we said goodbye. When I married my husband he was amused at the sheer number of times I said it every day. He thought it was odd how often my family said it and I thought it was odd that his family didn't. Five years and three children later he has become a frequent "I love you-er" too.

During a recent visit to Walmart I entered the dreaded holiday isle with my children and was bombarded with questions about Valentine's Day. I showed them the heart boxes filled with chocolates, the Dora the Explorer Valentines and the all of the socks, headbands and shirts covered in sparkles and hearts. Once we got home I started to think about how our family expresses love. Do my children have any idea what "I love you" means? I thought about the times I felt most loved. It wasn't when I was showered with lavish gifts, it was those private family moments- the time my son came over and kissed my knee after I bumped it (kissing my booboo to make me feel better), the way my daughter watches me with admiration when I get ready for a night out.

Valentine's Day is more than chocolate and candy hearts. It's more than diamond bracelets and flowers. It's more than saying "I love you." Valentine's Day is about showing our love and appreciation for those that mean the most to us. I wonder, does my husband know how much I appreciate all that he does to provide for our family? When was the last time I really took the time to tell my mother how much I admire her determination and strength? I tell my children " I love you" all day long, but do they really know how special, unique and talented they are? Not only do I want my children to feel love and appreciated, but I want them to feel comfortable expressing their love and appreciation to others. I came up with our new family tradition. My children are all 4 and younger so it will be simple for the first few years, but I am hoping by the time they are teenagers this can be a meaningful tradition they look forward to every year.

Heart Week - Honor, Esteem, Appreciation, Respect, Talent
  1. Using our heart frames, each family member has their own frame. My son made name tags for each family member, but you could also use pictures to signify the owner of the frame.
  2. Cut colorful sheets of paper into strips and put them in a place that is accessible to all family members with an assortment of markers/crayons/pencils
  3. For the week leading up to valentine's day all family members are encouraged to write down nice things about other family members. Depending on the age of the participants, the messages can range from simple sentences or drawings, to complex thoughts. They can be favorite memories, talents of the recipient, compliments- anything to show love and appreciation for the recipient. The only rule is that each person must put at least one note on each family member's frame. Notes can be anonymous or the author can write down his/her name.
  4. After a family dinner on Valentine's Day each family member takes some time to read his/her messages. This can be done together or privately.

Nursery Inspiration

7/16/2013

When chatting with friends this weekend I asked what they thought of the frames. They all replied with little lovies like "soo cute" or "love 'em." I don't doubt that my friends like the frames (how could you not love them!?!?!), but when it came to which frame they wanted for their home, each one paused and had the same reply (in one form or another): "how can I create a statement piece? I don't know what will look good in my home." My friends needed a little inspiration; thus the birth of this little blog. I started with nurseries and will move into kid rooms, master bedrooms, living rooms, laundry room and entries. I will add a new inspiration every day sometimes showing one frame and sometimes a whole wall display. Please share the pictures, leave a comment or two and feel free to ask if you would like to see something specific.

To kick things off we are going to have a little competition. We want to know which inspiration you like best. Like AND share your favorite inspiration and at 10pm tonight we will randomly select one of the people that shared an inspiration. That person will win the frame they shared. You will receive the frame for free + free shipping. Please note; you will receive the exact frame you are sharing- all frames are 8x10 in size. For tracking purposes you must share an original inspiration from our facebook inspiration photo album. The prize is the frame only. Good luck and happy voting!
